BOTTOM LINE:

I’ll be speaking at a one-day, in-person event in Virginia in October about how culture eats innovation for breakfast, and I’ll be joined by some super-smart people from my sibling companies in the Blue Cypress family. If you are an association executive that thinks innovation is important, you won’t want to miss it. Register here (and use discount code “propel” for 10% off; early bird ends 9/1).

THE DETAILS:

Most of you reading this know that PROPEL was acquired by a company called Blue Cypress back in 2020, and one of the coolest parts of being acquired has been interacting with the leaders from the other companies in the family. They are super smart people, and they care deeply about the association community. While we are all independent from each other as companies, Maddie and I have always thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could all get together and collaborate?”

So we are!

On October 10, Blue Cypress is putting on its first ever community event, featuring speakers from the family companies, all of whom will be focused on how to create real innovation in the association space. Associations have learned how to “talk the talk” around innovation over the last 10 years or so, but they have a long way to go on “walking the walk.” They are still too often victims of “we have always done it that way” thinking, and they’re not doing what it takes to access new value that they couldn’t reach before.

If you’re an association exec that is concerned about that, then come learn from smart companies who know the ins and outs of innovation and practice it in the association space. Here is just some of what you’ll get:

  • Rick Bawcum, from the strategic IT consulting firm, Cimatri, is going to show you how to put together an innovation roadmap, down to the level of timelines and risk assessment. This is that “walking the walk” piece I was talking about.
  • Dray and Thomas, co-founders of Tasio, a company that applies AI to member retention, are going to let you in on the latest trends and game-changers in the AI space for associations. They were doing AI long before ChatGPT got so popular, so whether you’re dipping your toes or going all in on AI, you’ll want to hear what they have to say.
  • And I’m doing the closing session on “Culture Eats Innovation for Breakfast” (so, yeah, I’ll be standing between you and happy hour). I’ll be sharing insights from our soon-to-be-released book on how to change your culture in ways that specifically enable more innovation.

And more! See the full agenda here.

The event is on October 10, in Arlington, VA (close to metro), with content running from 9:30 to 4:30, and it includes breakfast, lunch, and a happy hour reception. Registration is ONLY open to association execs, so sign up now and join your colleagues for a cool day of learning (early bird deadline 9/1). And get 10% off using the “propel” discount code.
